We get asked a lot of questions about the circular skirt. Yes, we often tear our hair out doing it. That's why I decided to show you all the stages of the making.
To begin with, we have to do some calculations, yes it is essential! So grab a pencil, a piece of paper, your tape measure and a calculator and go!
Calculation for a circular skirt
I will calculate in inches. For those who are in cm, it will be exactly the same mathematical approach.
First, you need to determine the radius using the following formula.
2Pi r = C So r = C / 2Pi
- "C" being the circumference, we are going to measure our circumference at the exact height where we wish to wear the skirt.
- Pi being equal to 3.1416
For example, the circumference I want to have is 32 1/2 '' (32.5). So I'm going to divide this number by 6.28 (2 x Pi )
32.5 / 6.28 = 5.18 so r = 5.18in
Once you have found the radius, you will be able to determine how much fabric you need. Yes, a circular skirt is a lot of calculation, we don't give up!
Quantity = length of the skirt (I need 16 inches) + the radius + the seam values X 2
So if I do it with my data: (16 "+ 5.18" + 0.5 "+ 0.25") x2
Rounding it off gives me 44 inches long or 1m13. This quantity is valid for plain fabrics as well as for fabrics with patterns having a meaning.
1) Fabric with a direction in the pattern

Step 5: Then cut a second piece using the first piece to have two symmetrical pieces.

Step 6: Assemble the sides. Apply the size of your choice. This can be a yoga style band or a drawstring elastic band.
